By far the people most important to the Bemidji Community Food Shelf (BCFS) are volunteers. Volunteers from many churches and from the community donate their time receiving food and money donations, packing boxes, unpacking freight, stocking shelves, gleaning from local merchants, and reporting BCFS happenings to their respective churches.
The Food Shelf staff and Executive Board appreciate hearing about collections for the Food Shelf ahead of time. As a courtesy, please call the Food Shelf to let the staff know of your plans. Thank you.
A member of the BCFS Executive Board could attend a meeting at your church, organization, business or club to provide useful information and answer any questions you might have about the Food Shelf. Just call (218) 444-6580 or email (bcfs@paulbunyan.net) to arrange a time.
The Bemidji Community Food Shelf (BCFS) does not have vehicles or volunteers to pick up donated food at this time. Please, if possible, bring in food donations during open hours or call (218) 444-6580 to arrange another time.
The Bemidji Community Food Shelf (BCFS) needs and accepts foods commonly used in most households (for examples, view the contents of a food box located under Get Help).
The Food Shelf also welcomes garden produce (clean, please). If you raise more than you can use, bring in your excess, mention it to the Food Shelf staff, and then leave it on the gleanings table for others to pick up. Fresh garden produce is a welcome addition during our short growing season.
In addition, the Food Shelf accepts donations of other food and nonfood items needed by households, including baby food, diapers, hand soap, toilet paper, and toothpaste.
