A
Little History
After
construction of the
present arena, spearheaded by Halvor Reise, H.T.
Langlie, Bill Howe, Dick Kroll, Bill
Kemp,
Larry Dow and the Bemidji Women's Federated
Club, in
1967 the
Bemidji
Figure Skating Club
was
officially set
up. Helen Reise was very instrumental in organizing the club as we know
it today. The original board of governors were Helen Reise,
Doris
McClellan, June Blackburn, Nina Thompson,
Eileen
Morlan, Bette Howe, Wanda Odegard, Carol Waughtal
and
Marion Nelson.
Beginning in 1970, the Basic Test Program was started with some
3500 skaters being trained through the program to
date.
Most of these skaters, at one time or another, have been stars in the
annual
Fantasy on Ice
productions
held at
the Bemidji State University arena since 1984.
