BEMIDJI FIGURE SKATING CLUB

Home Club Policies

Revised:  November, 2006

 

 

Ice Time Scheduling:

            1.  No ice will be purchased by the BFSC on holidays.

            2.  The regular season schedule may include up to 3 hours of ice time on scheduled school

                  breaks.

            3.  Exhibition ice may be scheduled as part of the regular season.

4.       Testing:  Discretion of the test chairperson and the BFSC Board of Governors 

        usually held two or three times a year.

            5.  Freestyle sessions are not to be changed to dance session.

            6.  Dance may take place on freestyle sessions – no dance music allowed at coaches

                  discretion.

            7.  Freestyle may not take place on dance sessions; MIF are allowed.

 

BFSC Ice Time Purchases from the City of BEMIDJI:

1.  Only one individual who is designated by the Board of Governors will be authorized to purchase ice form the City of Bemidji for the BFSC. This person will receive directive from the BFSC Board of Governors.

 

BFSC Ice Time Billing to Advanced Skaters:

            1.  Signed ice time contracts must be paid in full according to the payment schedules.  The only

                  exceptions being major illness, (child unable medically to skate), injury, or moving away

                  from the Bemidji area.  Notification of this illness, injury or moving must be made

                  immediately to the BFSC treasurer or skater will be billed for all ice time until such

                  notification has been made.  For illness and injury, a doctor's note is required.  These are the

                  only circumstances by which a refund will be given.  No refund includes monetary credit or

                  switching sessions.

            2.  Payment schedules on ice time contracts cannot be changed.

            3.  All contracts/ice time bills must be paid in full before skater is allowed to register for another

                session.  A new contract will not be mailed to the skater and they will not be given any priority 

                until the previous contract/ice bill is paid in full.

 

Walk-On Ice Time:

            1.  If a contracted skater is not on the ice within 10 minutes of the start of a session, the skater

                  will lose their contracted ice time and another skater may walk on.  If more than two skaters

                  are present it will be based on seniority.

            2.  All skaters who walk-on must sign in on the posted walk-on sheet located on the bulletin

                  board in the locker room.

            3.  Check current contract for walk-on rates.

            4.  Associate members may purchase walk-on ice when available at the current club member

                  walk-on price.  Skaters who are not members or associate members of BFSC who wish to

                  purchase walk-on ice when available, may purchase as much ice as they wish at the price of

                  $1.00 per hour paid at the time of walk-on in the mailbox in the locker room.

5. Jr. Advanced skaters are welcome to skate on advanced ice to prepare for their upcoming test  or competitions.   

   Skater should be already registered for said test or competition and the event must be within a thirty-calendar day time

   frame.  They may do so only if their private lesson coach will be at the rink during the time the Jr. Advanced skaters is 

   skating and if they will be receiving a lesson.  The cost of walk-on ice is $1.00 pre than the cost to advanced skaters 

   already contracted to skate.  You must sign in on the walk-on sign-in sheet in the locker room on the bulletin board and 

   will be billed for the time.  Your private lesson coach should show you where the walk-on sign-in sheet is located.

Music Policy:

            1.  There may be a monitor by the music box to check in and play music in the order it is

                  received.  No skater's music will be kept in the music box, skaters may bring it to the monitor

                  each session.

            2.  Skaters whose music is being played have the right of way on the ice and must be wearing

                  the designated sash.  This sash entitles wearer ONE run through their program with music.                    After one skate through program has been completed, sash wearer is no longer entitled to right

                  of way.

            3. Skaters are not allowed to use personal music player requiring ear/headphones.

 

Coach Hiring Policy

            No skater shall hire a coach to give private lesson instruction on ice time purchased by the

            Bemidji Figure Skating Club if they are not on the Approved BFSC Private Lesson Coach list.

 

Fantasy On Ice Show:

 

SOLO REQUIREMENTS:  Solo requirements are completely based on skating ability, and BFSC             coaches will decide upon skating solos collaboratively.  Every soloist must consistently be able to do the following, and must also do the following in the ice show program:

                        1.  Axel

                        2.  Two different double jumps

                        3.  Two different combination spins

                        4.  Connecting step sequence

                        5.  Presentation

Note:  Items 1-4 are worth 50% of total score, and presentation is worth 50% of total score.

 

+ Each solo is granted the same amount of time: 2 minutes

+ If a skater is a senior in high school, that skater will automatically receive a solo.  However if that

skater cannot meet the solo requirements, her solo will be limited to 1 1/2 minutes, unless the skater has passed the Intermediate freestyle test.

+ If a skater has passed her senior freestyle, that skater has the option to skate her 4 minute senior

    freestyle testing program with all of the required elements in it.

+ There can be a maximum of 8 solos and a minimum of 4 solos.

 

FEATURE SOLO REQUIREMENTS:  Every feature soloist must consistently be able to do the following, and must also do the following in the ice show program:

                        1.  Axel

                        2.  One double jump

                        3.  One combination spin and sole solo spin

                        4.  Connecting step sequence

                        5.  Presentation

 

Note:  Items 1-4 are worth 50% of total score, and presentation is worth 50% of total score.

 

+  There can be a maximum of 4 feature solos

+  Each feature solo is 1 1/2 minutes long

 

The total amount of solos and feature solos cannot exceed 12.  If the total number of solos and feature solos exceeds 12, solos and feature solos will be given based on freestyle level.  In the event of a tie, moves in the field levels will be looked at.

 

GRADUATED FROM HIGH SCHOOL BFSC MEMBERS:  Any skater who has graduated from high school must be asked back as a guest skater to have a solo, but they may skate in the opening line number of dance number.

 

Skaters must be registered for ice time November - March to participate in the ice show.  Skaters with solos need to commit to all performances.  Attendance at all opening number and advanced group practices is mandatory.  Any unexcused absence will result in not being allowed to skate in that missed practice number in the ice show.  Any absence must be pre-approved by the ice show director and must be communicated to the director by a parent.

 

 

High School Recognition at Fantasy On Ice Show:

            1.  All high school seniors who are current and active members of the BFSC and USFSA will

                  be recognized at each show.

 

Lost or Damaged Articles at the City Arena

            1.  As of February 15, 1989, the City of Bemidji will no longer accept any responsibility for

                  lost or damaged articles at Neilson-Reise Arena (City Arena)

 

BFSC Locker Room:

            1.  Periodically during the skating season, the club locker room will be cleared of all items left

                  out of the lockers.  This includes skating outfits, equipment, street clothing, personal items,

                  etc.  Items will be placed in the lost and found at the arena.  The BFSC and City of Bemidji

                  will not be responsible for any lost articles.

            2.  To gain entrance into the locker room when not in use for a club function, BFSC skaters must

                  show their USFSA membership card to the rink attendant as identification to gain access to

                  the locker room.  Skaters are then responsible for making sure the rink attendant locks the

                  locker room door when they are finished.

            3.  Locker room assignments, including large lockers, will be available only for registered

                  advanced skaters according to seniority.

            4.  No food or drinks allowed in locker room

            5.  Coaches are only allowed in locker room for business purposes.

            6.  Only BFSC skaters and associate members are allowed in locker room.

 

Media Publicity Policy

            1.  High School pictures will be taken in September for yearbook use.

            2.  USFSA tests passed:  Dance, (levels only), freestyle, moves in the field will be submitted

                  in written form to newspaper.

3.       All non-qualifying competitions:  All skaters who participated are eligible to be in the

 picture.  Pictures will be taken the Thursday after the competition at 4:00 PM at the rink. 

Qualifying competition:  Only skaters who qualify for the final round.  Pictures will be taken

the Thursday after the competition at 4:00 PM at the rink.  Publicity chair responsible.

            4.  Advanced group picture on wall in arena - organized at the beginning of the skating season.

 

Registration Policy:

            1.  Pertains to BFSC Home Club Members and prior BFSC Home Club Members joining as

                  Associate Member.

            2.  Advanced skaters (private lesson members)

                    a)  Priority list stands as posted.

                    b)  Skaters will not be displaced by any skater registering after 4/1/94.

                    c)  Registrants after 4/5/2001;

                        1.  Skater must have been registered in the Junior Advanced class offered by the BFSC

                              or have passed Pre-Preliminary freestyle and moves in the field to contract advanced

                              ice.

                        2.  Priority based on the following:

                              a)  Home Club member: length of membership in BFSC. In the case of a tie-based

                                    on longevity in BFSC programs.

                              b)  Associate members who have been prior BFSC Home Club members: length of

                                    membership in BFSC.  In the case of a tie-based on longevity in BFSC programs.

                        3.  Home Club members and prior BFSC home club members joining as associate

                              members will not be displaced by any skaters registering after 4/1/94.

                              a)  Registrants after 9/1/99:

                                    1.  New advanced skaters will be placed on the priority list at the start of

                                          advanced lessons, based on when a signed advanced contract was received

                                          by the Administrative Secretary.

                                    2.  Priority based on the following:

                                          a)  Home Club member: length of membership in BFSC.  In the case of a tie-

                                                based on longevity in BFSC programs.

                                          b)  Associate members who have been prior BFSC Home Club members:

                                                length of membership in BFSC.  In the case of a tie-based on longevity in

                                                BFSC programs.

                                    3.  If a contract is not received by the contract deadline, skater will be displaced

                                          to the bottom of the priority list for that session

                                    4.  Junior Advanced skaters registrants after 4/1/2001:  Skater must have passed

                                          Badge 8 in the basic skills program through the BFSC.

                                    5.  Freestyle Skaters registrants after 4/1/99:  Skater must have passed Badge #8

                                          in the basic skills program through the BFSC.

                                    6.  Basic-Skills Skaters:

                                          a)  Registrants after 4/1/94:  Skater must enroll in appropriate badge level

                                                through the BFSC.

                                    7.  Associate Members:

                                          a)  Any non-member of BFSC who is a member of another club must become

                                                an associate member to contract ice.

Bemidji Figure Skating Club - Hiring Policy

All candidates, for all levels MUST be in good standing with U.S. Figure Skating, to be considered for any coaching position with the Bemidji Figure Skating Club.  All candidates must also agree to become full members or associate members of our club, before signing a contract.

 

To be considered for a BASIC SKILLS coaching position:

Candidate must have passed at least Intermediate Moves in the Field, and Juvenile Freestyle.

 

Candidate must be at least 16 years of age, and able to lawfully accept employment in the United States.

 

Candidate must have mentored at least 3 basic skills sessions with the Bemidji Figure Skating Club, and possess a written favorable recommendation from mentor's supervisors to be considered for a coaching position.

            --  or  --

Candidate must have a written letter of recommendation from a prior club and at least one documented year of coaching experience.   A resume must accompany this written documentation, which includes two reference's names and either a telephone number or e-mail address.

 

Candidate MUST attend a Board of Governors meeting in person, upon invitation by the Board of Governors, after letter of application and all accompanying documents are submitted.

 

Upon approval by the Bemidji Figure Skating Club Board of Governors to coach, a 6-month trial period will commence which will be followed by an evaluation.  Bemidji Figure Skating Club Board of Governors has the right, at any time, and for any reason, to terminate the contract of a coach.

 

 

 

 

To be considered for a JUNIOR ADVANCED coaching position:

Candidate must have passed at least Novice Moves in the Field, and Novice Freestyle.

 

Candidate must be at least 16 years of age, and able to lawfully accept employment in the

United States.

 

Candidate must have mentored at least 3 sessions with the Bemidji Figure Skating Club in the Basic Skills program, and at least 3 sessions with the Junior Advanced program. 

 

Candidate must possess a written favorable recommendation from mentor's supervisors to be considered for a coaching position.

            --  or  --

Candidate must have a written letter of recommendation from a prior club and at least one documented year of coaching experience.   A resume must accompany this written documentation, which includes two reference's names and either a telephone number or e-mail address.

 

Candidate MUST attend a Board of Governors meeting in person, upon invitation by the Board of Governors, after letter of application and all accompanying documents are submitted.

 

Upon approval by the Bemidji Figure Skating Club Board of Governors to coach, a 6-month trial period will commence which will be followed by an evaluation.  Bemidji Figure Skating Club Board of Governors has the right, at any time, and for any reason, to terminate the contract of a coach.

 

To be considered for a PRIVATE LESSON coaching position:

Candidate must have passed at least Novice Moves in the Field and Novice Freestyle.

 

Candidate must be a high school graduate, and able to lawfully accept employment in the

United States.

 

Candidate must have mentored at least 3 sessions with the Bemidji Figure Skating Club in the Basic Skills program, and at least 3 sessions with the Junior Advanced program and 30 hours mentoring with a private lesson coach. 

 

Private lesson mentoring must consist of 30 hours of instruction covering both Moves in the Field and Freestyle from Pre-preliminary through the highest level skater at the club during mentorship.  Mentor must maintain a log book of dates, hours, level observed, and coach mentoring with, including coaches signature, to be considered as valid mentoring hours.  These 30 hours must include one test session also.  Fees paid and mentoring appointments made with the coaches are the responsibility of the mentor.

 

Candidate must possess a written favorable recommendation from mentor's supervisors to be considered for a coaching position.

            -- or  --

Candidate must have a written letter of recommendation from a prior club and at least one documented year of coaching experience.   A resume must accompany this written documentation, which includes two reference's names and either a telephone number or e-mail address.

 

Candidate MUST attend a Board of Governors meeting in person, upon invitation by the Board of Governors, after letter of application and all accompanying documents are submitted.

 

Upon approval by the Bemidji Figure Skating Club Board of Governors to coach, a 6-month trial period will commence which will be followed by an evaluation.  Bemidji Figure Skating Club Board of Governors has the right, at any time, and for any reason, to terminate the contract of a coach.

 

To be considered for a DANCE LESSON coaching position:

Candidate must have passed at least Silver level dances and Novice Moves in the Field.

 

Candidate must be a high school graduate, and able to lawfully accept employment in the

United States.

 

Candidate must have mentored at least 3 sessions with the Bemidji Figure Skating Club in the Basic Skills program, 30 hours mentoring with a private lesson coach.

 

Private lesson mentoring must consist of 30 hours of instruction covering both Moves in the Field and Freestyle from Pre-preliminary through the highest level skater at the club during mentorship.  Mentor must maintain a log book of dates, hours, level observed, and coach mentoring with, including coaches signature, to be considered as valid mentoring hours.  These 30 hours must include one test session also.  Fees paid and mentoring appointments made with the coaches are the responsibility of the mentor.
